Over the Break
December 9, 2004
|
Thanks to everyone for helping make this juggling club possible. It's been a lot of fun.
Last Wednesday was our last meeting of the fall semester. Weekly meetings for next semester are
currently scheduled for the same time and place, Wednesdays at noon. I'll be sure to send
out a reminder before our first spring meeting.
I will be in San Diego over intersession, but I may be able to get up to Fullerton and arrange a
few meetings anyway. If any of you feel like heading to the park and juggling on your own
sometime or organizing some other event, just let me know the time and place, and I can send out
an announcement to the other members.
By next semester, juggling club should have sets of discounted juggling beanbags to offer to members.
If you're looking for other props and equipment, there are now several online retailers listed in
the links section.
The World Juggling Federation competition will be televised and aired on ESPN2 in early
January over five half-hour segments. When more information is available, I will let
you know. You can also check out the World Juggling Federation
site to learn more. If I can find someone who can tape those, we may watch them as a club
event next semester.
Keep juggling over the break. I look forward to another great semester with the Juggling Club.

Winding Down
December 1, 2004
|
Next Wednesday (December 8th) will be the last regular meeting of the semester. If you are borrowing any of my
juggling beanbags or equipment, please try to come to the meeting. I may also try to arrange some meetings
or events periodically over intersession, so keep checking the website.
We are now an officially recognized CSUF club, so we'll be able to advertise and reserve buildings
next semester. Additionally, I have registered the club with the Internet Juggling Database's
list of juggling clubs. Find it's listing along with other local juggling clubs
here.
The Flying Karamazov Brothers will be performing their show "LIFE: A GUIDE FOR THE PERPLEXED"
from January 8th to February 6th at the San Diego Repertory Theatre. That's about a two hour drive from
CSUF with a ticket price of $32.50, so if there is any interest in seeing that, you will need
to let me know. More information here and here.

Mark Nizer Event and Other News
November 17, 2004
|
The award winning comedy juggler, Mark Nizer,
is performing his show, "Juggling and Technology,"
this Saturday (11/20) at Caltech in Pasadena. Ticket price is $12, and the show lasts
from 2:00-3:30pm. We will be buying tickets at the door. If you want to carpool from
CSUF, meet on the Science/Engineering Lawn in front of the Student Health Center NO
LATER than 10:30am on Saturday. Try to be there by 10:00am. We will meet by the ticket
office of Caltech no later than 1:00pm.
Please try to contact me if you are planning
on going so I have an idea of what size group we will have and I will know to wait
for you if you need a ride. Directions, maps, links, and additional
information can be found here.
Over the past couple weeks, I have been scouring the web for downloadable juggling videos,
and I will continue to add new links to the links section of the
site as I find them. Of particular note is The Juggler's Aquarium,
which contains a video encyclopedia of over 170 different juggling tricks. I also strongly
encourage you to watch the two WJF videos of Sean McKinney
performing. Visit the links page for more videos.
Also, a new page has been added in the Calendar section of the site
listing local performances and performance schedules of professional jugglers.

Third Meeting
November 10, 2004
|
Meetings are still held every Wednesday at noon, in front of the Student Health Center.
Thanks to everyone who came!
Anyone who wants can meet at Rolling Hills Park this Saturday (November 13) to juggle. I
will be there at noon and probably stay for a couple hours. The park is only a couple
miles from the school on Bastanchury Rd. (Drive north on State College toward Brea, and turn
left at the oil pump. Rolling Hills Park is at the bottom of the hill on the right). More
complete information can be found here.
Let me know if you will need a ride to the park.
We now have officers to fill all required positions. Davis Barber is the official
faculty advisor for the CSUF Juggling Club. I (Raymond) am the club President, Manya
is the Vice President, and once Pedro and Mayra sign the application, they will
officially be secretary and treasurer. If anyone would still like to be an
officer, let me know, and I'll see what other positions might be needed.
Over the last two meetings, we have formally reviewed and accepted the club constitution,
and we should be able to submit an application for recognition by the end of this week.
I still need Manya, Pedro, and Mayra to fill out additional information on the application
form.

First Meeting Overview
October 27, 2004
|
Thanks to everyone who came to the first meeting! We will continue to meet every Wednesday at the same time and place (at noon in front of the Student Health Center). The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd.
If you did not come to the meeting and you don't reply to the email or contact me, then you are not a member of the club, and you will no longer receive email updates. Reply to the email to remain on the mailing list. Otherwise, you can always check this website for updated information.
For those who missed it, our first meeting went great. We had a good time, and everyone's now well on the way to learning to juggle. Davis Barber surprised us with a visit from his photojournalism class, and they all came over to take a bunch of pictures of us. Davis has also said he will consider acting as a faculty adviser for the club.
The next Blueprints workshop is next Thursday (November 4) at 10:00am - 11:00am in Ontiveros BC. Manya and I will both be attending that. It would be nice to have one other member go if anyone's available. Let me know if you'd be able to.
I intend to start holding additional outside meetings in November. So if you can't make it to the weekly meetings, there will be other opportunities.

Getting Started
October 20, 2004
|
For now, weekly meetings are scheduled for Wednesdays at 12:00 noon. The first meeting
of the semester will be held this next Wednesday, October 27th. We will meet in the
large grassy area in front of the Student Health Center (The health center is across from the library and broken
statue of David). The time or location of weekly meetings may change in the future. If you
cannot attend the meetings and would like to, please email me and let
me know what your schedule is. (It would also help me greatly if everyone emailed me to let me
know what times you would and would not be available for meetings). I also plan to arrange
Friday or weekend get-togethers at Rolling Hills Park for anyone busy during the school week.
Check the "About" section for more information on
the structure of the meetings and future plans for the club.
We still need members, so if you know anyone
who might want to join, let them know about it. Spread the word. The more people we can get
interested, the better. Anyone is welcome to join. You don't need to know how to juggle,
you just need to want to learn how.
The club needs officers before the club can be recognized by the school. If you're
interested in being the Vice President, Secretary, or Treasurer, let me know!
Additionally, we are still looking for a faculty adviser
for the club, so it would help if you could all ask any teachers you know if they'd like to be
an adviser for the Juggling Club or if they know anyone else who might.
In order for the club to be recognized by the school, a minimum of three members must also go to a
one hour Blueprints workshop. This workshop qualifies those members to reserve school
facilities for the club's use. The next two workshops are on the following days:
Thursday, November 4, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM in Ontiveros BC
Wednesday, December 1, 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM in Ontiveros BC
Let me know if you are willing to or would like to attend a Blueprints workshop for the club.
There are additional workshops next semester, if you can't make either of those listed above.
More information can be found at Fullerton's Blueprints information website.
