About the CSUF Juggling Club
|
What is the Juggling Club?
|
The Juggling Club is an effort to expand the appreciation of juggling as both
sport and art.
We all have a basic understanding of what juggling is – the dictionary will tell you that
it’s the act of keeping multiple objects in the air at one time. Not many people,
however, have a clear understanding of how that is done. I intend for this club to both
introduce others to juggling who may not have otherwise been inspired to learn and to provide
a social community where experienced jugglers can learn from one another.
Juggling is a form of self expression. Every juggler has a unique way of dealing with the
same challenges, and his attitudes and emotions are expressed through every subtle movement.
It is a form of entertainment. It is a way to excercise and improve hand-eye coordination.
Some people are driven by competition or a desire to perform. Others just enjoy the
sense of accomplishment from setting clear goals and striving to attain those.
Whatever the motivation, juggling lets people accomplish what they never thought they
were capable of, and hopefully this club will give people a reason to try.

The Cal State Fullerton Juggling Club is no longer active, and weekly meetings are no longer held.
The Juggling Club meets at least once a week on campus for an hour or longer. Someone will always be there
for the entire time. You may choose to stay for as long or as short of a time as you wish. These
meetings will open with a brief organizational and planning discussion, and the rest of the time
we will spend juggling. If there are any members who have never juggled before, we will be sure
to teach them what they need to know to get started.
You can bring your own beanbags or balls if you have them. Otherwise, we will have enough
beanbags and balls to provide for several members. There will also be scarves, clubs,
rings, a diabolo, and devil sticks available for those wanting to try other things. We may
also be able to provide unicycles for anyone interested in learning to ride one.

The Juggling Club will likely get together at Rolling Hills Park or other local parks on
some weekends. Late night juggling in the gym will likely take place during the week.
Other informal events like movie nights, beach parties, etc. may be possible.

In the future, we hope to arrange for local jugglers to come to CSUF to speak or perform.
The Cal State Fullerton Juggling Club would also like to sponsor professional juggling
performances on campus if we can find ways to provide funding.
When we hear of any local juggling performances, we will try to organize club events to allow
anyone who's interested to see those. Depending on the interest level of club members,
we may also be able to organize a trip to a juggling convention or festival next year. Also
dependant on interest level, open campus juggling competitions, performances, or festivals
may be possible. Performing in local parades is another likely possibility.
